At Home on Sunset Beach on Oahu

Back in 1961, when my dad was in the army and stationed in Hawaii, Mom and Dad lived on Sunset Beach in a little bungalow.

Today, we went looking for it, and believe it or not, it's still there...and looks the same! They have turned the bungalows into vacation rentals. Ki Iki Beach Rentals has their site here.

This is the beach just off of the porch.

Here's the front...they rented this for 99 dollars a month and lived here a year and a half before moving on base. Pretty tough life, huh?

The owners let us go in and look around...here's the view out the front window on this rainy day.

They lived here right up until mom was due to have me...then they moved on post. So I guess you could say I lived here too, in a way!

Mom standing in her old kitchen.

Looking across the porch...

and reminiscing.

Vacationing with mom means I'm spending more time in the shops....I bought this pretty sarong yesterday.

That is so cool! I'm sure they were thrilled to be able to visit their "old" home.

Hey, I am so enjoying your trip... vicarious living has something to be said for it... and it's so inexpensive! :) I've just finished reading your past 3 posts, and I adore the story about the bungalow your parent were able to revisit. They must have been exstatic with the opportunity! That sort of thing doesn't happen every day. When do you come back "home"? Thank you for sharing!

Hugs, Penny

Is that a crocheted bag on the bed? Why, I do believe it is :)

Loving all the pictures from Hawaii.

It truly looks like paradise. I have never been there, but hope to some day.

Thanks for the pics, I feel like on vacation too. On a rainy day here in Mo, it's nice to get away even though just in photos.

How surreal!! It's wonderful the same house is still there. I really miss living on Oahu and enjoying life the way we should :)
