Louie 12/1/95-5/26/07

He was the best dog. Happy.
So affectionate. Tolerant.
Loving.
The best traveller.
A mighty swimmer. An awesome retreiver. Even a good babysitter.

A house without a dog is a home without that daily reminder to be affectionate, to greet each other with total enthusiam, to love each other unconditionally. We're going to have to try to remember that without Louie there be a constant reminder.
I'm trying to put his things away, but I'm having a hard time with this. Joe suggested we put his bowl up over the cupboard where we can see it. When we saw this bowl years ago we knew we had to have it...Life is good....because that's the way Louie saw each day.

I've done the same thing. When P.K., my cat of 15+ years died a couple of years ago, I put her food dish on my bookcase. It's a reminder of what a great cat she was, and how happy she was.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about this. It's never easy, and we're going to be facing it soon with our old man Max. Thanks for sharing these pictures and your memories of him with us. I hope that all of your wonderful memories helps to lighten your grief.

I am so sorry - you can tell from your pictures and words that this was a very beloved member of your family.

We just lost our sweet little beagle so I know a little how you must be feeling. It brought tears to my eyes to see Louie's bowl up on your cupboard.

Sorry to hear of your dog's passing - that is always so hard, they give such unconditional love!!!

Say - I am wondering if you might be from around St. Joseph, Michigan??? I see the tshirt of Magician Lake, and some how the people in your pics look familiar! Am I seeing things, or might there actually be a blogger from Michigan??? I have only come across one or two, and they are from the Detroit area! Would love to find someone closer to home! I am at dcarlson11553@sbcglobal.net

Thanks - Diane

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I've been lurking on your site for a few weeks now. I love the poodle breed. Maybe this will help

I work in Greyhound rescue. We see a lot of deaths with these large dogs. They only live about 12 years, and we've lost 2. I feel that when a beloved pet is lost, the best thing we can do is to open our home to another. Even if it's just a foster for now.

So sorry about your beloved Louie. It is heartbreaking to lose a pet, they live so much just for or attention and love. I also saved my golden retriever's big water bowl, the first fall and winter she was gone I filled it with leaves and pine cones. It sat on the sofa table and I would walk by it and touch it everyday for a long time. Sadness turned to sweet memories, I miss her still 8 years later.

Thank you for all the sweet comments...it's such a tough thing, and it's nice to know you all understand. You know it's going to happen someday, but you are never ready.
